Letter of Recommendation

Hugo Pereira Brito

To whom it may concern,

I am very happy to recommend Hugo Pereira Brito, whom I had the opportunity to work closely with at Prowler.

Hugo is a strong engineer, but what stood out to me most during our time working together was the way he worked with people. He is one of the most empathetic colleagues I have worked with, and that empathy translated directly into the way our team operated: how we communicated, how we organized work, and how we helped each other when things became difficult.

From a technical perspective, Hugo worked extensively around Prowler's security checks and SDK, contributing to the detection capabilities of a large open-source cloud security project. That requires understanding cloud services and security requirements, but also working carefully within a codebase used by a large number of people. Over time, he also contributed across other areas of the product, showing that he was comfortable moving beyond a narrow area of responsibility when the team needed it.

Hugo also had a strong sense of ownership. When a problem came in from the community or something needed attention, he was willing to investigate it, communicate with the people involved, and help move it toward a solution. He cared about the quality of the product, but also about the experience of the people reporting problems and contributing to it.

Where I think Hugo is particularly special, however, is in teamwork.

He naturally helped organize the work around him. When several people were involved in a problem, Hugo was good at helping the group understand what needed to be done, breaking work down, keeping people aligned, and making sure nobody was unnecessarily blocked. He did this without trying to control the team or make himself the center of the process. It came from a genuine desire to help everyone work better together.

His empathy played a huge role in this. Hugo pays attention to people. He understands that different engineers may have different levels of context, different ways of approaching a problem, or simply be having a difficult day. He adapts the way he communicates, listens before jumping to conclusions, and is always willing to help.

That might sound like a soft skill, but in an engineering team it has very practical consequences. It makes technical discussions easier, makes collaboration more effective, and helps prevent small misunderstandings from turning into larger problems. Hugo is the kind of person who can make a technically strong team work better simply by being part of it.

He was also someone I could rely on. If he said he would take care of something, I trusted that he would follow through. If he needed help or additional context, he would ask for it. And if somebody else needed a hand, he was very often willing to provide one.

In an open-source project such as Prowler, where engineering, security, product, and community constantly overlap, those qualities are particularly valuable. Being a good engineer is not only about writing good code. It is also about understanding the people around you, communicating well, taking responsibility, and helping a team move in the same direction. Hugo does all of those things naturally.

I would be very happy to work with Hugo again. I recommend him without hesitation to any engineering team looking not only for a capable and dependable engineer, but also for someone who will genuinely make the people around him better.

Please feel free to contact me if I can provide any additional information.
